Gaia Video Tutorial

This four part video tutorial highlights Gaia's functionality including ability to work with various data types and sources, the advanced rendering and feature styling capabilities, and the robust support to Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) standards and services.

The first part shows how to download and install the application. The Gaia install file is just a little over 1MB in size, so the process is quick and easy.

The second part of the tutorial walks through the basic elements of the Gaia user interface. It shows how to add a map, edit a note, and save a map session as GSF.

The third part discusses the construction process of a map and how a feature layer is styled using Gaia's rendering and symbology.

The last part of this series dives a little deeper into the use of OGC data in Gaia. From using a GML file to accessing a WMS and WFS to using the Filter Builder tool.

Gaia 3 was developed with CarbonTools PRO, an extension to Microsoft .NET Framework that supports advanced location content handling, mapping and sharing. Software developers can get the Gaia 3 source code by purchasing CarbonTools PRO.

Features

  • Bing Maps? OpenStreetMap? OGC? Google Earth? No Problem - Gaia 3 lets you use the location content you want. Microsoft Bing Maps, Yahoo! Maps, OpenStreetMap, Google Earth KML/KMZ, OGC GML, WMS, WMTS, WFS and WCS, ESRI Shape, Autodesk and MapInfo formats and more are all supported.
  • ESRI ArcGIS Server 9.3 - Gaia fully supports ESRI ArcGIS Server 9.3 Web Feature Services, including robust server transactions using the Gaia WFS-T Extender.
  • Includes Open API - Gaia 3.3 includes an open API to allow developers to modify and enhance the application. The Gaia Extenders API allows programmers to develop enhancements to Gaia with or without CarbonTools PRO. Any developer can follow a simple set of API rules and drop the extension assembly in the Gaia folder. When Gaia starts it recognizes and implements the extender automatically.
  • Create and share your own Notes - Gaia 3 lets you create and customize your own geospatial Notes with text and pictures. You can even use geotagged pictures in your Notes.
  • Make your own map symbols - Gaia 3 makes it easy to create meaningful maps, and includes tools to create your own map symbols. Gaia 3 also includes some of the most powerful GML symbology currently available.
  • Save your work offline and share your maps - Once you’ve created your multi-layer map and Notes you can save your work as geospatial session files (GSFs) and go “offline” with all types of location content - you can even send them to your friends.
  • Get time-based updates - New temporal controls let you get time-based updates for your GML content and other sources.
  • Security and proxy tools - Gaia 3 supports proxy configurations and secure OGC services.
